I was curious what people have paid to get A/C installed into a house? My prospective house is 1300 sf with existing ductwork/furnace and furnace.

Mine was about 12k all-in for furnace, a/c, ductwork, new 200 amp panel and permits. 1k of this included replacing an entire hall wall where old wall heater was, to get rid of old 70s paneling.

Just a guess, but in your case, maybe 5k.

Yep, 5 g. Shop around. I paid 1700 and did most of it myself. My neighbor just randomly picked someone and paid 15 for almost the same setup. 3 ton.

How close is the house to the coast? I bought a house w/out AC so I'm interested in the answer as well even though I'll probably never install central AC

Depends on tonnage and or amount of energy to properly heat/cool your home. You'll need someone like from Sears HVAC to inspect and give you an estimate. From there, you can have a price to work from. Usually, Sears is at the top of the pricing scale, you'll probably find someone cheaper.

15K? That sounds insanely high, even for a 3-4k sq/ft house with 2 units.

It never ceases to amaze me how much variation there is in pricing for things like this.

I have used Oak Island in the past for my rental and residence: Air Conditioning and Heating | Oak Island AC - HVAC in Escondido

They are not the cheapest, but very easy to work with and they only install quality Lennox units.

Note that you are going to pay alot more to install AC in Aug-Sept. You may want to rock one of those portables (they have improved immensely) for now and call them back in October.

Window units will also work pretty well for 1300 square feet.

We paid 10 k for a complete ac/heat system and a tankless water heater system. They ran new ducts and gas lines for the tankless. We have a small Californian bongalow around 1050 square feet with a basement .
I have no problem recommending west coast appliance. They did the full install in 2 days and did everything in our contract. Very professional
