Hodster, I don't think so. I think college kids dominate southern PB, and maybe families in the north and east, by Birdrock. OB is more hippie, grunge, gritty, collegey, and some nice parts in between especially south.

Pacific Beach is SD's ocean-front answer to Orange County. Entitled college-kids and a parties every weekend. Hippies and the like are over in Ocean Beach.

for OB, add tweakers, homeless, punks, communists, though overall it has both redeeming and needing redemption areas...

As others have said PB isn't really the hippie area OB is. Pb has its share of beach bum hippies but it's mainly college kids, wannabe mma fighters and those types, surfers, and the miss mash of weirdos.

Definitely not hippie, more bohemian in OB.

One of the more diverse and dense coastal neighborhoods. Eclectic as noted by all the representation above.
