I recently moved to North County from L.A., where the County Assessor's website provides free access to data on nearly every parcel of land in the county. Indeed, some of this data is used by this website in the Property Valuation pages, and has long been a valuable resource for me in researching build dates up in L.A. However, I can't find anything like that for San Diego, either by wandering around the county websites, or by Googling with a "site:" qualifier, or anywhere on C-D. I use build dates in researching local history.

Does this service not exist in San Diego County? Or does it vary depending on the community? It would be ironic if it remains easier to do this research in L.A., even though it's now 100 miles away.

I am a little bit confused with what you are really looking for?

Just history of APNs? What is the valuation page you are referring to? The tax assesor page?

Every county has different resources online and may be in different places.

This FAQ might help

I don't know if this has the information you're hoping to find, but here are the County Assessor's links: https://arcc.sdcounty.ca.gov/pages/default.aspx

Here's an example of a property valuation page on this website, showing Motor Avenue between Palms and National, in L.A. To find it, I typed the following into Google:

site:city-data.com "Property Valuation" "Motor Avenue" Los Angeles

As an example, one of the addresses is described as follows:

3343 Motor Avenue
Los Angeles, CA 90034
Find on map >>
Show street view
Owner: DAVID T AND JOANN M FELLNER
Total land value: $230,899 (it was $220,800 in 2009)
Total building value: $124,810 (it was $119,351 in 2009)
Total value for property: $355,709 (it was $340,151 in 2009)
Recording date: 12/07/1999
Year built: 1912
Effective year built: 1922
Area of property: 1,370 square feet
Assessment for fiscal year: 2012/2013

There's little room for doubt that C-D gets this information from the L.A. County Assessor's database, which is freely available for online searching here, and provides the same information with the exception of the recorded property owner:

Property Information Assessor's ID No. 4314-022-016 Site Address 3343 MOTOR AVE

as well as any changes to the 2014 Roll Values
will be available after September 30, 2014.

Property Boundary Description THE PALMS LOT 12 BLK F
Building Description(s) Improvement 1
Square Footage 1,370 Year Built / Effective Year Built 1912 / 1922 Bedrooms / Bathrooms 1 / 2 Units 2

Repeating the Google search with an Escondido street produces nothing, however. And on the SD County Assessor's website I have found only an option to get general parcel maps of an area, without specific parcel data other than boundaries and location. There's also a shopping cart and checkout button, which, I regret to say, pretty much answers my question.

Default Any Updates on Online Accessible Info

I'm having the same problem. It appears there is no easily accessible way of getting this information. I'm ideally looking for something like ZIMAS, which makes finding property information much less burdensome in LA.

Default Solutions found

Google Earth Pro, which I think you can still download for free, does provide some of this information, although not every parcel's build date is shown.

Zillow has also proved to be an excellent source, though here, again, it's geared mainly towards residential properties. You can also get info on properties which are off the market including build date, price and tax history, square footage, and so on.
