I am new to San Diego, having lived in Waco Texas and Los Angeles.
In each city I found foods that I really liked...

I have been looking in the SD area but havent found any.
Perhaps you can help!

In Los Angeles I really liked:

Hot Pastrami Sandwiches: Normally I found these at any TOM's Burger or Mikes Burger. Usually in a combo with fries and a drink... They came in a french roll with mustard and pickle... I havent found any establishments like TOMs or Mikes here in SD yet... and have not seen these sandwhiches on the menu of other places.

Mongolian BBQ Buffet: I usually saw these at chinese food buffets or as a stand alone restraunt. I have seen something similar here at the mall but it wasnt as good.

In Waco we had Rosatis Pizza:

Which served amazing Chicago Deep dish pizza (2" deep)... I have looked here in SD and found some good pizza places in Little Italy.. however no one had deep dish pizza like that.

I would appreciate any help witht this... my coworkers havent been able to.. and the internet has failed me as well

Pastrami sandwiches - DZ Akins in La Mesa. This place is great, but expensive. I'm not sure if they serve them hot, but you could ask. Avoid Milton's Deli at all costs.

Deep dish pizza - I've heard good things about Lefty's Chicago pizzeria in North Park, but I've never been there.

Mongolian bbq - can't help there. Sorry.

Pastrami - try the New York on Rye food truck

Deep Dish - Berkeley's, Lefty's. The former has better fillings, the latter better crust. Both seemed different (less deep) and better than the one classic deep dish place I tried earlier this year in Chicago itself.

I third Lefty's for deep dish pizza. The folks that own it are Chicago transplants and from all reports I've had from native Chicagoans they do it up right.

There's a few places you can get hot pastrami sandwiches, DZ Akins as mentioned, and the Chalkboard in pacific beach. Also Hungry Bear subs in escondido, but that's probably out of your search radius. I know I've seen/had them at other places and it doesn't seem like they're that much of a rarity here, but I can't really think of anyplace else specific off the top of my head. Seems like most sub/sandwich shops have it though.

I know where to get Mongolian hot pot (yum!) but I'm not sure if there's any Mongolian BBQ places in town. I'll have to do some research on that

I second NY on Rye for Pastrami and Roast Beef. So good I am salivating just thinking about their pastrami. They come near our office regularly.

They may make an occasional South Bay appearance for you OP at the Food Truck gathering at Eastlake Church.

If you can make it to Mission Valley near Qualcomm Stadium, try Vic's La Fiesta Liquor and Deli, they to have bomb hot pastrami sandwiches NY Style.
