That's phenomenal! It's amazing seeing California schools holding down five spots in the overall ranking.

I also believe UCSD is a severely underrated school. Also, remember that UCSD is ONLY 53 years old. That's pretty amazing in my opinion. I think it's the only one younger than 100 years old.

Well it's not underrated anymore!

UCSD is ranked 14th in the world by ARWU.

Academic Ranking of World Universities - 2014 | Top 500 universities | Shanghai Ranking - 2014 | World University Ranking - 2014

20th in the world by CWUR

CWUR 2014 | Top Universities in the Americas

#1 by the Washington Monthly for Positive Impact

Washington Monthly Again Names UC San Diego No. 1 College in Nation for Positive Impact

I agree that it's very impressive for a University to go from green-field (actually former military base) to top 20 in the world in about 50 years. Most of the other top schools are hundreds of years old. It's a testament to the academic and research prowess of the SD region.

More strong ranking for UCSD. Not bad for a business school that started only 11 years ago.

It really is amazing how fast UCSD has risen in ranks for being such a young school.
