Sometimes, on Sunday mornings, I like to get away from everything for an hour or so. One spot that provides tranquility and inner peace is the El Prado area of Balboa Park. Can anyone recommend other such places? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Mount Soledad, Point Loma/Cabrillo Monument, Torrey Pines Trails, Mount Helix.

The list could go on, but that's on the top of my mind.

I second Mount Soledad. Worth taking a look at.

Mt Soledad is for sunsets, Mt Helix is for sunrises. IMHO.

The Self Realization Fellowship meditation gardens in Encinitas are amazing and great for private reflection. I'm not sure what time they open on weekends but on Sunday afternoons, they open Yogananda's former residence for tours which is cool to see.

Googled this place after reading your recommendation and it seems like this place is an absolute gem. Since I'll be in town on Tuesday for a few days, and could use a tranquil space for meditative reflection and contemplation, I'm going to check this place out. Thanks!

cool, glad I could help! It's our little local oasis, but I can't help recommending a visit to the gardens. Hope you enjoy your visit.

Torrey Pines trails, as has been mentioned, is outstanding. Climb up the hill and then off onto a trail which meanders on the cliffs above the ocean. Strategically placed benches will provide a tranquil view.

I have a hard time finding bliss in places where there are a lot of other people. I like to go out and hike someplace where I have space to myself. Like climbing the Fortunas instead of Cowles in mission trails or going out to cuyamaca and wandering the meadows, or going on the back trails at iron mountain to the Ramona lookout.

NMGUY is down in SouthBay. Have you tried Otay Lakes County Park?

It is a nice quiet park and it doesn't get too many visitors. Most County parks outside of the city don't.
