Hello everyone. I have decided in a move to La Jolla, where my job is.
I need some advice on some things before we make our final decision
I am a 34 yr old white male with a wife and two kids (3 yrs and newborn). We will be making around 400K a year (Doctor).
I know that home prices are high, etc., but I would like to know about the community a little more.
How good really are the schools? I have heard great things but I would like some more perspectives.
Are there lot of good franchises in the area? (McDonalds, etc.) I come from an area where you can drive 10 minutes and find a franchise, whether for clothes, food, or whatever else.
How bad are the gas prices? I have heard they are high, but any statistics on that?
What are some of the good neighborhoods here?

If there are any other things, such as property taxes, etc. that you can fill me in on feel free.

Thanks!

Renting or buying? What's your budget? Yes, you can drive 10 minutes and find whatever franchise your heart desires. For gas prices, check out GasBuddy.com - Find Low Gas Prices in the USA and Canada.

For anything else you're interested, you can search the C-D Forum for it.

La Jolla proper is very expensive including housing, homes will be $1M plus at least.

I take it your hospital is in La Jolla (Scripps?) but you don't necessarily have to live in LJ.

There are many other locations in the near vicinity that you should also consider. For example Del Mar, Carmel Valley, Solana Beach, Encinitas, depends on how much you want to spend on housing. Yes, we have every single store or food franchise you could ever want, in fact probably too many. You should really contact a real estate broker specializing in those area in order to get the proper information that you will need. I can't imagine why you wouldn't want to come here!

this doesn't even sound real. A Doctor who takes his kids to McDonalds, wants to relocate and McDonalds is one of the most important places? Sounds a bit much, or like a doctor i wouldn't want to visit. Who moves and wonders if a McDonalds is near?

The OP may have moved to the U.S. from another country and is still learning English. The use of the word frachise to describe chain stores was a tip off.

OP, where are you originally from?

so, you all think that doctor's kids don't like McDonalds? Although I have to agree that he did seem to be worried about some very insignificant things (like price of gas)...
