I'm looking to move to the La Jolla area and I wanted to know if there are areas that are safer than others, more desirable than others, etc. Are there restaurants that allow dogs at the outside tables? Are there shops that allow dogs inside?

La Jolla is pretty safe everywhere! About dog: Usually they will let you stay outside restaurants, but they might refuse dogs inside shops... Sorry we are not in Europe where dogs are welcome everywhere! [moderator cut]

La Jolla is probably one of the nicest areas in San Diego. Dont think you need to worry about it not be desirable.

DogFriendly.com has a ton of places listed that allow dogs in the San Diego area. Of course it probably depends on the size of your dog too.. dont think they'd like a 100 lbs Mastiff in a tiny cafe.

Recently crowned best city for dogs, you and your canine partner will have no problems around town. San Diego Named Best City For Dogs by Magazine

As others have said, all of La Jolla is safe. While it's actually a neighborhood of San Diego, the locals break it down into even more neighborhoods - Upper Hermosa, Lower Hemosa, The Shores, The Village, Mt. Soledad, Bird Rock, Muirlands, The Farms, Barber Tract, among others. Perhaps a native La Jollan can describe each area for you.

Good luck on your move.

Oh I would be really interested in that description as well.
Thanks!

Default Great replys!

Thanks for all the great replys. I would love an explanation of the neighborhoods of La Jolla from a native. Like Sdburbanite outlined.
