If you are going to be working in CV, I would recommend Otay Ranch many times over El Cajon. First of all, because of the commute, second of all, the Chula Vista area overall is just a more pleasant area vs El Cajon. At least you can walk peacefully in downtown Chula Vista and not have to deal with crazy transients all over the place. The transients in El Cajon are numerous and way out there.

If you do decide on El Cajon, find a place in the outskirt areas of the city. The Chaldean population and Iraqui food are definitely positives, yum

You'd say Chula Vista better overall?? chulauana? (My iPhone really fighting me on that one lol) It's not like either town core has a great reputation but I was never much of a fan of CV outside of a select few neiborhoods and Eastlake. I'm assuming Otay Ranch is basically another Eastlake??

^^^ I second this.

Chula Vista ,Escondido, Oceanside and El Cajon all get bad raps by other San Diegans BUT the difference is Chula Vista has manage to change its image and/or perception with other San Diegans especially in the last decade with the massive amount of new developments in the Eastern part of the city.

Where as Oceanside, El Cajon and Escondido don't have as much new development to help shake the bad image many San Diegans have.

The chulajuanas, klantees, and ocean slime monikers are a thing of the past.

Yes, overall Chula Vista is better, and I am not referring only to Eastlake. How long has it been since you have been there? Chula Vista's town core is clean, quaint, and safe. It is actually quite nice. The city has only improved and has attracted more middle class people. It is repeatedly rated one of the safest cities in America. Check online. A lot of you have very outdated views of the city.

I was at the El Cajon library 2 weeks ago, and within 5 minutes there was: a fight in front, 2 prostitutes having a heated discussion in the bathroom while bathing and changing, and while I was trying to exit the bathroom, a lady stormed in with blood running down her nose. This was all at 4pm!

I am in El Cajon often for work and see crazy stuff with the transient population in that area all the time. You don't see these types of things in CV. Chula Vista feels safer.

This is not an exaggeration, the El Cajon library is a nice little library right in the heart of downtown EC next to Main Street and the townsquare. BUT it is overrun by homeless people especially out on the front lawn. For East County libraries we prefer the Lakeside County Library at Lindo Lake Park.

The park is not free of homeless looking drunks bet they tend to stay away from the library/playground/rec center area.

I love libraries and this one is closest to my office when I have to be in EC. I am pretty open minded and laid back, but this last incident was too much. I didn't know if I should laugh or cry. Lol

I also used to walk around in the area across the street from the library during my lunch break, but it has only gotten worst with large amounts of very creepy people hanging out on the hills.

No, I am not exaggerating with my El Cajon stories. But I hadn't been in a while and kind of missed it for some strange reason. It is a unique place and grew on me a little, he he.

"obsolete negative stereotypes" was my whole point of the post. Lol Sorry, if that point went over heads.

Clearly you didn't get your point across. It's tricky trying to do word play in a forum, since there are no tone-of-voice clues to support your point. It's too easy to unintentionally say something unpleasant or ugly.

Just sayin' ...

Yeah I get that. Once again my apology. Sarcasm is a very hard thing to do via forum type .
