I've heard it's now banned but even last year we had a rat problem in our firewood. Those lil green pellets did a number on the entire lot. All they carry now at Home Depot is junk. Sticky traps don't work outside and the rats are too big for mouse traps.

We live in a rural area...so there is bound to be more creepy crawlies. We have anextra, un-attached garage where we store our " extra" stuff.....Christmas decorations, etc. It is all in big plastic Tupperware like containers, up on shelves. This past season we found a small hole chewed into one of the containers and a nest had been made out of Santa's beard. The mice must have ingested it, because a whole family was dead in the beard. Ewwwwww! Rest of the containers were all fine.

My one worry about that would be that something would set up a home in the crevices created by the 2-by-4s and the bottoms of the boxes.

Rats LOVE plastic and will use it to line their nest.

I know! But we figured they are better than cardboard and we couldn't afford metal safes!

As opposed to the much larger-area crevices provided if you put the boxes directly on the bottom of the storage unit?
