ha ha... well my post wasn't intended to be a Happy Gilmore quote, but okay!

San Diego: You gotta harness in the good energy, block out the bad. Harness. Energy. Block. Bad. Feel the flow, Happy. Feel it. It's circular. It's like a carousel. You pay the quarter, you get on the horse - it goes up and down, and around. It's circular. Circle, with the music, the flow. All good things.

I have seen that movie way too many times!

You should really try to convince the city to post that brilliant paragraph on all the "Welcome to San Diego" boards as the city motto. Really fits with the eccentricity of SOCAL.

Hey, Paleo, I don't think you will find anything in SD Co. that is quite as scary as Hastings Street in Vancouver, I unwittingly wandered there during a day trip to Vancouver last summer...yikes!

The cheapest coastal neighborhoods in SD County will be Oceanside to the north and Imperial Beach to the south and everything in between costs more, usually a lot more.

I lived in Oceanside for 7 years & there are gang issues there, you have to have some street smarts & an awareness of what is around you. The closer to the coast, the better off you will be. I never lived in IB so can't speak to that. It does, however, have a long, sandy beach, as does O'side.

'Unrest' in Tijuana is highly exaggerated. Especially nowadays.

True, if one ever wants a nice quiet long, sandy, almost secluded beach with no tourists or virtually no locals either, then visit IB South of the most Southern apartment building. Right along the estuary. Border Patrol generraly hangs out near the fence before it turns into Playas de Tijuana, but you don't need to go that far to get away from the crowds.

It's a very peaceful beach and people even ride their horsies on the beach from time to time, just don't get in the water after a rain storm.

That stretch of water is pretty messed up between the river and the "pipe" that dumps into the ocean a ways out. Absolutely will not surf it but many do.

^^^ probably true, along with Silver Strand State Beach it's one of the only beaches where one can enjoy a sixer of beer without police harrasment.

The last time I was there on a weekend, signs were up advising not to go in the water, and this was not after rain. It was interesting, because on the Mexico side, there were LOTS of people on the beach and in the water. The U.S. side? 2 people and they were in clothes (not swimsuits) and were in beach chairs. Nobody was swimming or surfing.

Such a shame about the sewage pipe, because that water looks beautiful and inviting.

That current is running S to N so it goes directly to IB if I remember correctly. That's why on the Mex side you see people in the water, though I still think it's pretty nasty from all the TJ runoff.
