I was just going through my bill paying and when I got to my SDG&E bill, I ended up paying $25 more even though my gas usage was down 9.1% from last month and my electricity use was down 11.3% from last month. Anybody else seeing a similar uptick in their electricity bill?

I'd call SDGE and ask them why your bill has gone up. I did that once and they can tell you literally hour by hour when your usage has gone up or down. I know SDGE is changing their tier system. Now the lower tier (people who use the least) pay less, but as I understand it, the lower tiers are now going to be increased quite a bit, but I don't think that's gone into effect yet.

California companies are cutting the 'tiered' rates. Some areas will have more increases than others, but I have an electric car so I've noticed the uptick. It pretty much comes down to times of day you use the most electricity. If you are using most of your electricity during Peak Hours, it's going to go up. And Off-Peak hours have changed, or shortened, so instead of say it starting at 7pm, it might not start to 9pm. Things like that make a difference if you were used to using electricity and never really noticing a difference.

Didn't they recently send a notice that people are going to see credits on their next bill due to some kind of over-charge? If I can find it I will post here. I am going through my paperwork this weekend for bills and such.

There are two times a year, April and October, when everyone gets a large credit, I think it's for some type of allover conservation.

I am presently having several solar companies taking a look and giving us quotes for our house. I'm a little concerned about whether you can see the panels from the street on our historic house but am going to test out a mockup in the next couple of days.

I thought it would be $20k or so after the federal rebate but it looks like it is going to be around $11-12k for 14 panel system that would provide 105% of our electric with about a 6.5 year payout and then free electricity for another 20 years if the system holds up like it is promised.

It looks like we may go for it too since we love our house and have no intentions of ever moving. I like the idea of perhaps transferring some of our electric costs to what will likely be increasingly expensive water since we love and live out in our compact but extensive garden.

Could you please remind me with what company you chose.

We used Sullivan Solar. Spoke with 3 different companies and they just seemed the most professional and dependable. We feel we made the right choice: no regrets. Ours is a ground mount, since we had the property space and I didn't want my tile roof touched. We have 24 panels...that run the house, pool, hot tub and 1 hybrid car.
