I have a dog and my rear neighbors have 2 dogs. Something about one of the dogs triggers my dog to go ballistic and bark at the fence line where the neighbor dogs will sometimes be sniffing around, or will approach the fence line if they hear my dog being let out into the backyard. When my dog barks, I pull him away and make him go inside the house. The neighbor called Animal Control, but never speaks with me directly and I've never had any problems before with these neighbors. The neighbor is livid about my dog, but don't understand it is their dog(s) that irritates mine. They continue to threaten me with calling AC again, and has her small kids making "demands" at me like they are adults. These people do nothing to show they are willing to help resolve the nuisance. A barrier could be erected so their dogs cannot get up the slope area to sniff and bang on the fence, and get my dog going. I say this because their yard is huge, mine is tiny. I cannot put up a second barrier. My dog does not bark at anything thing else, just this dog. Do you think I am totally at fault?

I agree with both of the above comments.

When you first brought your dog home, I'm guessing your dog barked at everything. You trained your dog not to bark at everything. Now you need to train your dog not to bark at the neighbor's dogs.

It's hard to say. I am extremely sensitive to noise and, although I love dogs, incessant barking drives me crazy. If the barking is only for a few minutes and, as you wrote, you take him in the house, I think your neighbors are being unreasonable. However, you probably should train your dog not to bark at your neighbor's dogs. (easier said than done) Maybe your dog just wants to play. Do you take him to dog parks so he can interact with other dogs?

It's your dog barking. Their dog has every right to be in their yard, just as your dog does in your yard. But if your dog is the noise maker, it's up to you to stop it. Try a bark collar.

Yep, that's we had to do. I have a beagle that howls...all night long. We got the bark collar, that I was against at first but it has worked out pretty well.

What kind of fence is it? Could your dog get into their backyard? Is it "merely" a noise problem or could it potentially get worse?

I bought this anti-bark collar for our dog. It works great. No pain for the dog and no more barking.
