We are flying into San Diego on very short notice with our 2 dogs. We are looking to rent a house/cottage rather than stay in a hotel and are having a very difficult time finding anything so last minute in San Diego county that allows dogs. Not being familiar with California--can anyone let us know of any other areas we can search in? We're looking for beach towns or scenic places within 4 hours of San Diego.

Have you checked airbnb? You can filter on places that allow pets.

Yes, Airbnb, home away, VRBO, vacationrentals, and bring Fido. No luck.. I think we need to try a different area--but I don't know where.

Well, pretty much anywhere on the coast between Ventura and San Diego is within 4 hours at non rush hour times.

Personally I'd stay within a few miles of the coast and avoid Oceanside and certain parts of Long Beach as well as Inglewood. Otherwise, you really can't go wrong.

Try Laguna Beach. Just know it's not cheap, but it is an amazing place.

If you go to the TripAdvisor San Diego forums, there was just a trip report from a woman who visited San Diego with two dogs. She rented a small apartments in Ocean Beach, and gave the address in her report. She indicated there were other apartments in the same complex for rent that accepted dogs. She posted her trip reports under something like "rolling trip report" and they were posted last week.

Edit: here's the link -- the details about where she rented are towards the end of the thread:

Also, you didn't specify your dates, but here's a home in my neck of the woods that has some available dates in the next few weeks: Lagoon pool & hot tub on private mountaintop... - VRBO

I haven't been in this house personally, but I know where it is located. It's in a very scenic area in East County. From where the house is located, you can be in Coronado (beach) in about 45 minutes or so. Downtown SD would be a little less. But, it is in a very rural area, so don't expect night life and it is definitely not a beach community. Still, it's in a beautiful scenic location if you don't mind being out in the mountains.

You might not be able to get anything in Laguna with the Festival of the Arts and Pageant of the Masters on right now. Very, very crowded.

Look at Ocean Beach, mentioned. Solana Beach, Del Mar, Encinitas, Leucadia.
