We want to be close to the beach but not necessarily on the water. I was told by a realtor that there are no rental agents out there to help with my search. Does this mean I have to rely on craigslist ads and apartment websites? I am planning on coming before to get another feel but we are kind of stuck on Ocean Beach for its proximity to the beach and downtown.

What are your suggestions. Any website? Agents? Service you would know about?

Thanks.
If you are working form home, I'd consider OB but also all the coastal North County neighborhoods too....Carlsbad, Encinitas/Cardiff, Solana Beach specifically....you should be able to find a 1 bedroom place close to the water in those neighborhoods at 2.1k per month and they are all fantastic areas

Do not throw away your money on sky-high San Diego rent. Do not pay California's insane and highest-in-the-nation income taxes, sales taxes, gas taxes, electricity and water rates, and absolutely stupid home and rental rates. Bank your loot for years to come. Then you will be in charge of your time, your efforts, your life. San Diego will be here waiting for you.
Great Advice!
I just found out yesterday that a guy i work with Is moving to Utah i January.
His house is in Escrow here, and he is closing on a 250k house there in Utah. The Proceeds from the house here in San Diego will almost pay off the house there.
Same Job Same pay as here.

You may want to check out the aparment complexes in Carmel Valley. I live in one and I think they all accept dogs and are in your price range. Very good area. 5-10 min drive to the beach.
Torrey Villas, Torrey Hills, Torrey Ridge, Torrey Gardens. All in 92130 and all within a mile or 2 of each other.

I'm in Torrey Ridge. A 1 bedroom can be had for 2100/mo most likely. There are no 1+den. 2BR are around $2400/mo.
