My 12 month promotional offer for Uverse U200 + Internet ended this month, and my rate was due to go up from $80/month to approx. $150/month for U200 with HD, DVR, and 12 Mbps internet (through AT&T).

I called AT&T and tried to get another promotional discount by saying I was going to switch (as is a common tactic) and they told me there weren't any promotional offers. I ended up getting switched over to their newly owned DirecTV, as the reps said they are trying to transition people over to DirecTV, I assume to free up bandwidth for their internet.

When all is said and done, I'm getting the basic 145 channel DirecTV HD package with DVR "rental" and 18 Mbps internet (through AT&T) for approximately $95 for the first year (and about $120 for year 2 of 2 on the contract).

I'm curious what other people in San Diego are paying for these services as of October 2015.

Hey dj,

My basic cable and internet is included with my HOA fees. I'm not 100% sure how much that would be on it's own but I'd guess around $100 or so. The community gets a big discount by making the residents all use Time Warner. But then I pay an additional $85 per month to upgrade to whole house DVR services with 2 boxes, and a bunch of extra channels. I upgraded my speed from 10 MB to 50 MB as well.

Dish has been great to me. I pay $55 a month for 200 channels, and the service has been awesome. Cox is a robbery IMO, they charge like mad for basic cable which has shot up to like $70 a month for only 65 channels or so straight from the cable line in the wall, and they're not all in HD either only the local channels! You need a box in order to get HD for every channel, but then that cost even more a month.

Cox is insane in how much they charge, their introductory offers are a joke, and once the offer expires, the prices shoot up to neck breaking levels.

The problem is, depending on your location, Cox has a stranglehold on the cable market locally and they are the only choice for a lot of people in SD.

If Cox basic cable was $70 per month, I doubt if they would have any takers.

My block in Encinitas is Cox only. I pay more for cable than water trash and electric combined. I have a problem with this.

Cox also doesnt honor agreements IMO. I have made two deal already and when my bill comes it is something different. No wonder people hate big business.
