Hey guys,

I'm moving to San Diego in January and will have a job in Rancho Bernardo. I am 22 years old, very social and would like to live in a fun neighborhood. That being said, I understand everything is pretty far to the south of RB, and since I hate traffic I'd be willing to look for a happy medium between proximity to work and proximity to fun.

Any suggestions on which neighborhood to live in?

What is your approximate monthly budget for rent?

No sense folks suggesting areas that are way out of your budget.

Here: San Diego Metropolitan Transit System

Look at the Route 235 Rapid Bus, among others.

I live in North Park, which is the "fun" neighborhood, and work in Escondido. It's a reverse commute. There's no traffic to speak of in the morning, and on the way home in the afternoon I'm usually stuck in slow stuff for about a mile and a half on the 805 (between the 163 and my exit). The 235 Rapid bus is also an option, especially if you can bike from the transit center to your office. So yeah. There's really not a happy medium in between as far as night life

I don't think there will be a happy medium. Either you live close to work or you live close to fun (and then you can have all the fun you want and walk safely home). However, the 235 bus is real possibility if you can bike ride (or skateboard) to and from home and work and the bus stations. I've taken the 235 bus. The seats are comfortable, the A/C works well, the stops are very few, and most of the trip is on the freeway, meaning very little of the "herky-jerky" that makes a bus so unpleasant.

To that end, I would like to suggest eastern Normal Heights, or possibly western Kensington. Normal Heights is the more fun neighborhood and more affordable too. The 235 bus has a stop right at El Cajon Boulevard and I-15 and can be easily walked, biked, or skated to.

Besides the fun of Normal Heights itself, you will be in reasonably close proximity to North Park, South Park, and Hillcrest, which are some of the other fun neighborhoods. You will be far from Pacific Beach however. Hard to know what your preferred crowd is.

Bingo is the night life in RB after the early-bird dinner specials.

Hahaha! Cruelly funny.

But they're still boogey-ing away past 7pm to the music of Lawrence Welk.
