Just for fun, what San Diego neighborhood or city nearby do you think is equivalent to the following LA areas:

Beverly Hills
Hollywood Hills
Torrance
Silver Lake
Studio City
North Hollywood
Burbank
San Pedro
Hidden Hills/Calabasas
Marina Del Rey
Inglewood

Beverly Hills - Rancho Santa Fe
Hollywood Hills - Soledad Mtn I guess
Torrance - Miramar Rd & Mira Mesa Blvd (which sort of mocks the business areas of Torrance)
Silver Lake - North Park
Studio City - The hills above the airport around Washington, Shakespeare bar
North Hollywood - College Area
Burbank - No equivalent?
San Pedro - Imagine a nicer National City
Hidden Hills/Calabasas - Santa Luz
Marina Del Rey - Shelter Island
Inglewood - Not sure?

This is totally fascinating. I wish I could comment but I barely know anything about LA. I've lived in San Diego about 26 years and only been to LA maybe 6 times HAHA! But this is helpful for planning a visit!

Burbank - La Mesa/Hillcrest/Mission Hills (without the movie studios)
San Pedro - Golden Hill/North Park (without the harbor)
Inglewood - Chula Vista/Sweetwater
Hidden Hills/Calabasas - Rancho Bernardo
Marina Del Rey - Coronado near the Silver Strand

Extra Credit:
Long Beach - Pacific Beach
Santa Monica - La Jolla/Carlsbad (Palomar Airport = Santa Monica Airport?)

Beverly Hills- Rancho Santa Fe/La Jolla minus the Beach.
Hollywood Hills- Mount Helix
Torrance- Chula Vista
Silver Lake- Not Sure
Studio City- Not Sure either
North Hollywood- Mission Hills, Hillcrest.
Burbank-Clairemont
San Pedro-National City
Hidden Hills/Calabasas-Poway
Marina Del Rey- Don't know
Inglewood-Nothing equivalent in SD, but maybe parts of SouthEast SD.

There really is no comparison as L.A. has a completely different layout than SD, but every time I cruise down to National City, Imperial Beach, South San Diego, SouthEast SD and Chula Vista, it looks a lot like many parts of L.A. and the vibe is similar.

I'm sidetracking a bit here, but since we're talking about L.A., I had to compare it to other SD neighborhoods than what's already been mentioned.

Chula Vista is laid out like many parts of L.A., same for National City. Lot's of older, urban neighborhoods South of the 8 freeway.

Off the top of my head.

The Latino "Ghettos" of SD : Barrio Logan/Logan Heights, Sherman Heights, Stockton/ShellTown, Grant Hill neighborhoods, Imperial Ave, National Ave, and Market St. corridor is like a small East L.A. without all the people, major traffic and business districts. City Heights is pretty ghetto too, but is more mixed with different ethnicities so it's hard pinpoint what area in L.A. City Heights fits into, as L.A. has a ton of City Heights like communities.

Our mini version of South Central/Compton is Lincoln Park, Skyline/O'Farrell Park, and Valencia Park. Blood gang dominate these neighborhoods, just like Compton.

But no Hollywood, or Pasadena areas or anything as exciting or extravagant in SD compared to L.A.

Nope. Chula Vista/Sweetwater is more like the area south of Pasadena and north of downtown LA. San Diego has nothing comparable to Inglewood.

This^^^
Some Parts of Inglewood has some of the worst gangs in all the US. Nothing in San Diego even compares imo.

Not unless Inglewood has settled down and improved vastly since I lived in Pomona (80's).
