If you do end up in Coronado, and have a car, head down to Sea 180 in Imperial Beach for cocktails or dinner one night. Sea 180 is in the new Marriott hotel on Seacoast Drive, and it is right on the beach (literally!). It's a great place for sunset drinks or dinner. They even fire pits out on the patio. Now, I will warn you that most of IB is not a tourist destination, but the area along Seacoast is sort of what Mission Beach used to be like years ago, and the pier is fun to walk out on too.

Again though, in addition to Coronado, I'd recommend looking towards North County. Del Mar, Solana Beach, Encinitas, Carlsbad are great beachside communities and (with the exception perhaps of Del Mar) far less "touristy" than Coronado, and also quieter than Coronado. So, keep them in mind if you don't find the right place on Coronado.

Any where on Coronado will be good. It's a small, very walkable island. https://www.vrbo.com/vacation-rental...ounty/coronado
