That's show, not shot...Want to be cast on the new show “Animal Kingdom,” in the “gritty surf community of Oceanside?”
According to CentralCasting.com, the show producers are looking for “real” and “notHollywood [!]” men, women and kids of all types including surfers and students and all ethnicities to work as paid background actors, stand-ins and photo doubles. No experience necessary. And they will be paid, bro.

As my friend would say, this is full of WTF?

And who came up with the idea that Oceanside was "gritty"? It has its less-than-nice-and-safe parts, but "gritty"?

They need to head to the Back Gate, not the beach, for "gritty".

East O'side. It's pretty rough in certain spots and gangs are well documented in the area. Junior Seau grew up there and I believe his brother was killed due to gang violence when he was growing up.

No doubt - Oceanside is a lot of different things - but I wouldn't say "gritty" is one of them. I think most areas of Oceanside that could have ever been considered gritty as already or well on their way to being gentrified.

Interesting though - Oceanside PD has had their share of scandals in the past
Book skips rough times of Oceanside police | The San Diego Union-Tribune

I worked at City Hall during the late 90's - early 2000's - saw a lot of questionable stuff happen on a regular basis but I've never worked at any other City Hall than Oceanside so I have nothing to compare it to.

Husband and I are both former Marines (he's actually did 20+ years) - I can't imagine any show about Oceanside not having Camp Pendleton and there are very few shows that actually get military life "right".

I thought this was pretty cool to read about. At first I thought they were actually casting for people from Oceanside to have an acting role on this show- buy after reading the article it is for background people when doing shots in Oceanside. Still pretty neat. I do not think of Oceanside as gritty, but I can see why they are selling it that way. You have to keep in mind most shows about Socal are shows like The OC & 90210.

Heard on the news tonight that they're also filming a new TV show in downtown called "Pitch." The plot revolves around the first female pitcher for.....the Padres. They're also casting for extras, which made me wonder if they could hire some of downtown's street people.

Saw the trailer. Resemblance to SD is practically non-existent... Calling anything in SD gritty is pretty funny. Homeless central, yes. Place of uncontrolled violence...?

OC is a surf ghetto, like Santa Cruz, Venice, Huntington Beach, etc.

Gritty compared to most coastal cities, which tend to be very exclusive.

Now is it a real bonified ghetto? Nah. A ghetto is where white people lock their car doors, and panic as they try to find a way back on the freeway.
