If anyone in your family has been affected by cancer like my family has, you'll understand why this is great news. MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas, a top cancer treatment and research facility, just signed a partnership agreement with Scripps Healthcare. This will result in additional cancer treatment facilities, cancer treatments and cancer research here in San Diego. San Diegans will now have access here in San Diego to the latest cancer clinical trials at MD Anderson without having to travel to Texas. Exciting news!

In addition to the treatment aspects, I also think this is good news for the San Diego economy. They're planning on building two facilities here, so that will bring some new jobs to the area, and since they will also be doing clinical trials and research here, it's likely that this is also good news for some of the biotech firms in San Diego, and it may attract other companies to San Diego as well.

But the main reason it's great news is the access to new cancer treatment options.

I have a relative who was recently diagnosed with multiple myeloma. I started to think, it's too bad this is just too late for her. But ...

If you're on disability and can't afford to continue to live in San Diego, this is not at all helpful. She has bought herself a nice house (for $95,000) which is, as she puts it, 'within crawling distance to the health center' (which has a top-rated research facility for her disease).
