First, the neighborhood may be irrelevant to you, but your opinion on your particular neighborhood could be useful to other people. It's part of the reason these threads stay open and online.

The other thing I would suggest is posting this thread in the Financial section. More specialists and fewer generalists. You would have a greater chance of getting more expert answers than in one of these geographic based forums.

Momma,

I would stay put. Your going to take a huge loss. We put our house on the market. But we're going to have to rent it now. I took a job out of state and we hoped to sell. But with some many foreclosures happening in the Fletcher Hills area we would take quiet a loss and they are offering nearly 80K less.

We are going to sit tight for about a year or so then try to sell again.

OK, Kettlepot, you're right. I should have responded ages ago. The neighborhood we left was Allied Gardens. BUT, I have to say, Allied Gardens as a whole is great. The particular pocket we were in just wasn't family friendly and didn't seem to be trending that way either. The school (Foster) was sub par, only because of the lack of community support. Our particular street was very unusual and not too friendly, but we met others just east of waring and people were very outgoing and very family friendly. It was just our luck of the draw. So be it.

Anyway, thought I'd update people about things. We did sell and we did take a loss, but it's looking like things are still dropping and we'll be able to get something larger and for $50K less or more. We're renting in San Marcos, for the time being, but are not in love. Kinda too suburban and also realize that SDUSD is actually pretty good, in terms of curriculum (our daughter is way ahead in SM). As for AG schools; Marvin, Dailard and Hearst are probably better options and we now know that those areas are also more family friendly.

SO...was it a waste? Not really, we're learning a lot and carefully planning are next and hopefully last (well, at least for 10 years or so) move. These are some shaky times. Our fingers are crossed that we did, indeed, make the right move.

Glad it worked out for you. Sometimes, you gotta do what you gotta do and take a loss. You only live once!

That piece of crap shack or cool loft space downtown for us. Oh, the things we do for our children.
