I've noticed when I watch the news a lot of times the newscasters refer to the location and I think it's something that happened in another city, only to recognize the MTS bus or SDPD cars. Names like Lincoln Acres come to mind.

Also I was driving through Carmel Valley and noticed they refer to the luxury area as "Del Mar Mesa"...Funny because Del Mar has always pretty much been to the north and west of the 5. I like how they put "Del Mar" into the name to trick the non-local, monied snobbery into thinking they're in a high class locale! Torrey Highlands, Del Mar Mesa...geez all this "high class" developments they're trying to push on the 56 corridor makes me sick.

Here's the official list...

I have a feeling "NCFUA Subarea II" will get a new name if any housing is ever built there (I have no idea if there are houses there already, but for some reason, I get the feeling not)

The official list is nice, but I bet those people on the west side of Mira Mesa are fighting tooth and nail to be called Sorrento Valley, Sorrento Del Mar, or Sorrento Mesa or whatever stupid name they can think of that sounds classier than Mira Mesa.

I've lived in SD County for over 30 years, and Lincoln Acres was a name I heard back when we lived in Chula Vista , so I don't think it is new. Maybe just "new" to djx?

It is interesting how perceptions change over the years though. I remember when we first moved here being told by multiple people that Poway was "the sticks" and for "rednecks." And you know, back then, it kinda was.

For those curious about Lincoln Acres, here's a bit of history, from Wikipedia:

Lincoln Acres is an unincorporated community of San Diego County located wholly within the boundaries of the incorporated city of National City. It has a population of approximately 2,100 residents.

Lincoln Acres was first settled during the Great Depression, mainly by farmers from the Dust Bowl.

Not, because it's mostly a lagoon. I can't imagine them ever building homes there.

La Jolla aka San Diego. It's not new, but 'upgrading' your location's name is nothing new.
