I wouldn't call that commute "fairly easy" unless I was comparing it to LA or Chicago. It's pretty slow during rush hour. Other than rush hour, traffic on I-15 moves pretty well.

try looking in Escondido which is just north of San Diego. Housing isn't as pricey and the commute to San Diego is about 30 - 40 minutes. Might want to try looking at Poway as well.

That's not much TBH. Between my husband and I we take home almost $5k/month (after taxes, insurance, retirement, and pay $1400 for a two bedroom apartment. But that price we got you will not find in our area anymore. Our apartment would easily go for $1800+ if we moved out today. The rent prices are skyrocketing like mad and we are looking to leave next year to another state.

Granted we are doing okay with that money (and paying off student loans), I don't recommend anyone come to San Diego anymore...
