Do it at home, go to a park or a relative's house. First birthday, the kid has no idea what is going on, has no friends, it's just for the parents.

Chuck e cheese in San Diego is super ghetto and dirty.

I would like to do it at home we live in a 1200 sqft townhome and im not sure about the living room and backyard being enough space. The golden hill oark is our first choice but we also want to prepare for rain. We're expecting anywhere from 20 to 45 people. My living room is 300 sqft we do have a back yard not big but decent amount of space along with many other kids. We have carpet and i want to have something to keep them occupied.

Have you thought about reserving a picnic shelter at one of the city parks that has a child-friendly play area? That usually works out great for children's birthday parties. Golden Hill Park and Balboa Park are right in your back yard, so you might start there. For a big group, you'll need a park permit.

That said, my now grown children have zero recollection of their first five or six birthday parties. So, my main recommendation would be: your daughter won't care about this one, and you and your wife will have more fun if you keep it short and simple.

Go to Balboa Park, you'll have plenty of room there.

We had my oldest sons birthday at his Grandfathers house(Del mar heights with an ocean View) Couldn't pass that up.
My Daughters 1st Birthday was at "The Boardwalk" in El Cajon. They do everything, serve the Pizza bring the cake , cut the cake ect...

What is your budget? Be careful with April outdoors. I've seen a lot of cancellations/last minute changes as you might expect. I run a couple of venues.
