I swear, there is a Statie for every 5 people here, & many patrol cars are unmarked & hard to detect.
I grew up in an area like that (suburbs on the East side of Cleveland). Each little suburb makes TONS of revenue from traffic violations there (speeding by as little as 5 mph, "incomplete" stops at stop signs, going through yellow lights that may turn red 1/4 second before you completely clear the intersection, etc). Brutal. Most other cities I've lived in have virtually no traffic enforcement in comparison.

AADAD, best of luck. I sent you a DM. Here's a great piece of advice from a poster at the Idaho forum: when you're packing up the last boxes before your move, pack a "hot box" with all the items you'll need on your first night in your new home so you won't have to rummage through boxes and suitcases when you're exhausted from the trip.

Wave goodbye to San Diego in the rear view mirror, and remember the good times. And then look ahead!

Are you looking to move to the PNW as well?

Where is everyone planning on going?

My wife and I have been thinking of moving *to* San Diego (not the other way around). It would seem that San Diego would spoil a lot of people and make it tough to leave - especially if you are someone who is affected by bad weather, extreme temperatures and/or lack of sunshine! I'm guessing many people that have spent a lot of time in SoCal underestimate just how much of an effect weather has on a person and may find themselves longing for CA after awhile. Few places are what I would call "pleasant" 300+ days/year. SoCal being the exception.

For example, I've been in Colorado for 10 out of the past 12 years and it would be VERY difficult for me to go back the midwest (where I grew up) where you barely see the sun for half the year and can't really do anything outdoors for 4-6 months. Positively depressing! I would think that leaving San Diego would be equally tough on many people.

San Diego is not the only city in the US with a monopoly on sunny weather (though it can get chilly with some rain from Dec 1-mid March along with May Gray and June Gloom) nor for many who move away, including myself, is weather the exclusive reason for one's being or decision to leave.

So you are out in Miami now, Elchevere?? How is it going? Any surprises now that you are there? I don't think I could live there but I love going to Miami for vacations, business, etc. Coming out in May for business and hopefully a couple days vacation.

Everyone's going to have different destinations, and different priorities.

For us, it's moving to where the kids and grandkids are, to an area with fewer people, fewer taxes, and fewer rules. Weather is inconsequential, we can find things to do anywhere, in any season. We'll still be coming down to the lower 48 every so often to travel and explore, but it's no longer going to be our home base.

Southern California has great weather - along with huge population, tax, law, government spending, crime, growth, issues. Those issues will continue to get worse, and for many us that grew up here and remember a California that's long passed on, this area doesn't hold the same attraction as it once did. Many of us can see which way the wind is blowing, and we wish all of the new transplants and folks that will hold out - best of luck.
