I apologize if this has been mentioned here before, but is anyone a frequent poster on the forums on SDLookup.com > Home I use the MLS to look up houses for sale and track recent changes in properties and trends (just for us, I'm not a realtor), but sheesh, it's quite a "doom and gloom" attitude about the market on there. I realize the market is declining, but I can't even ask a question without people insisting I would be an idiot to purchase now, that it would be stupid to do so in this market. Um, okay, perhaps, but I still can't wait to get out of my condo with a busy toddler...I'm going nuts, here. And many houses in my desirable areas (Point Loma) are still being snapped up quickly.

Anyone else find the mentality difficult on those message boards? It is funny to read some of the debates, I suppose, but it's certainly not very welcoming if I have a basic question.

You're really just seeing a phenomenon in forums of any type: a large percentage of people will post negatively on message boards of any topic. If you don't do anything to curb it they will eventually take over the boards and scare off all the newbies, which in the end kills the forum.
you'll see this is common on the more niche sites. On the high-traffic, mass interest forums, excessive negativity is usually tempered a bit more.

The housing market thing is interesting because there is a real bubble-blogger-ecosphere there with a little bit of an anti-homeowner sentiment and some 'leadership' that has created a bit of a "movement". If you want a taste of that read the piggington.com or craigslist housing forums.

City Data posters usually focus on the merits of the neighborhoods, what it is like to actually live there, while the housing boards really seem more focused on the investment / financial aspect of home ownership in general.
