Because you don't know how to interpret a weather report, she's incorrect. Sure.

What's there to play in the mountains? I don't understand. These mountains aren't even green and has the possibility of snake encounters. Hiking yes. but playing.. I don't get that. Do you mean like bowling or paint ball or just games like tennis? You need a bowling alley or a tennis court for that and I am not sure what mountains got to do with it.
For the weather report, no specific names needed. San Diego county has four weather zones - coastal, inland, mountains, and desert.

From I-5 (or even I-15) you're seeing just the start of the foothills - the mountains are farther east.

Hiking *is* playing, if you enjoy it. So is camping and picnicking. And when it snows, sledding and making snowmen. Or just being outside, in a different environment than down in the coastal/inland areas. And enjoying the sweeping panoramic views over the desert. The pioneer days, when they play-act at that educational place on Mount Laguna, are a lot of fun.

Your mission, should you accept it, is to read the wikipedia page for San Diego County. You might find something you like out there, out beyond I-5 or even beyond I-15.

Refer to my reply to you last week about where to go in San Diego County for hiking and scenic views.

The beach areas are only a tiny portion of San Diego County. The mountains and desert areas are truly what makes San Diego different than Miami or Tampa (or Minnesota).

If you truly want to experience all that San Diego County has to offer, you need to get out of PB and Hillcrest once in a while.

Saharan Dust Headed For South Florida Friday « CBS Miami

Mountains there are hills of trash dump sites.

Miami and San Diego really have nothing in common, but that's another thread.

You are good at keeping track of things in my posts . This is news to me. I associated SD with beaches for the most part. My bad.

I have been lazy. I used to go hiking back in September and lost motivation once it got cold. I see it's warming up again and the sun sets like at 7. That's a plus because even if I leave home by 3 pm, I can still see stuff. So, I will have to start reserving weekends for nature and exploration from now on.

I haven't even explored much of downtown or gaslamp. huh! Time is running out. I better get started.

Got it. This is new for people who move to SD. It's easy to confuse inland and mountains and even coast and inland. For instance would mission bay be considered coast? I feel like if they used neighborhood names, it might be easier.

When it's cold and foggy at the beach, it's usually sunny and warm just a few miles inland. Next time the weather is depresing you, hope in the car and head out to Mission Trails (about 15-20 minutes from PB) for a hike or just a comfy walk.

Hiking up Cowles Mountain is the traditional MT hike, but it is a bit of an uphill slog. There are many other hiking and walking options in MT . If you like to run, there is a great paved route for running through the heart of Mission Trails.

Here's the Mission Trails website: Mission Trails Regional Park - San Diego California

Very helpful. I love to run. Mission trails it is. I have heard Cowles mountian is not for the faint of heart or beginners or even moderate hikers. I will stay away from that one though . although I have health isurance, I don't want to hurt myself over a hike
