What are the good hotels these days, nothing fancy, don't need to be at the beach. I'm thinking a hotel that's no more than $100-125/night, if that's still doable, for a good enough hotel. My SO and I are going to SD for a couple of days and we desperately need this relaxing break from life for a couple of days in early August! So far, here's the itinerary & I WILL have a car:

Seaport Village
Headquarters (new shopping area min from Seaport Vlg)
Museum or two at Balboa Park
Bazaar Del Mundo area (where the Whaley House is)
A couple of malls (Westfield UTC & Mission Vly, maybe Fashion Vly)

Maybes:

Wild Animal Safari Park
Area where of the Hole Del Coronado

BTW, I'm not interested in companies like Airbnb so don't say those AND anyone know of any good art supply & hobby stores beside Dick Blick's AND can't miss restaurants?

Will you have a car during your stay?

As for art supply stores, Artist and Craftsman Supply in the Hilcrest area is excellent:

Have you tried a site like Travelocity.com to get some ideas on hotels that will be available in your price range during your travel dates?

If so, let us know the names and addresses of the hotels you've found and maybe we can tell you about the general area they are in, how convenient they'll be for the things you want to do, and restaurants in the area.

I started looking around on Trivago.com & then reading the reviews on Yelp.com for a couple hotels so far that "seemed" good. I think I'll have to pay around $175-200/night for a decent hotel, otherwise, it's not a very good hotel overall.

I'd like to be close to Seaport Village because I can drive to everything I want from there & it's nice to stroll around there one last time before I go home at the end.

The Manchester Grand Hyatt is right next to Seaport Village. https://manchester.grand.hyatt.com/en/hotel/home.html

^ Yeah, I found them already. On their official website, it's like $500+, but on trivago via one of those other sites, it seems it can go as low as $250. More than I wanted to pay, but I'll see. Thanks.

Lafayette Hotel on El Cajon Blvd near North Park and Hillcrest. Central location. Cool vibe and pool scene. Excellent steakhouse and dive bar attached (red Fox room).

I used to stay here when I moved away for a while. The rooms aren't that fancy but its safe and a great location. Should be around 100-150 depending o room ad time of year

Keep in mind parking at downtown hotels is $40-50 a night. If you really are on a budget check out hotels in mission valley. Clean and decent, but geared to business travelers.
