DUI deaths are on pace to beat 2016 totals
Driving high is starting to become the new norm now.

Quote:
For eight weekends in a row, someone has died in a DUI crash in San Diego County.
This weekend, the Fourth of July holiday, officers and deputies will be out in force to try to prevent more fatalities.
At a news conference Thursday along Mission Bay, police and county leaders gathered in front of a crumpled SUV to implore the public not to drink and drive. They stressed that DUI crashes are completely preventable, and to plan ahead for holiday festivities.
"We're not going to call it a tragedy, because it really is about individual responsibility and choice,” said Interim District Attorney Summer Stephan. “I want to be clear. Drinking and driving is a choice. Taking someone’s life is a serious crime. Don't let your choice become your crime.”

I think it's also a combination of drugs and alcohol (yes, including pot).

If this is such a big deal, then how come when I called the police to break up the huge undergrad house party, they let them all get into cars and drive away?

They did what you asked (by stopping the party), and probably didn't want to arrest a bunch of kids, who were just having fun and doing what kids that age do.

Why you gotta rain on their parade?

Of course I agree with you that driving drunk is never an option/good idea, college kids will do what they do, I was there once, partying like an idiot, it's just part of the process.

Absolutely no excuse now with Uber and Lyft.

If college kids can drink pricey craft beer and restaurant hop on the weekends- they can afford an Uber or Lyft ride.

As long as it's not in my neighborhood have a good time. The minute someone has their fun at my expense... watch out.
