I bought my car in 2010 and in 2011 we moved overseas but my car stayed with my parents for three years, I just renewed the registration online every year. Then in 2014 we moved to Guam and took my car with us and had to get it registered there. It was registered there for three years and now we are back in CA. My car arrived today and Im lost with what to do. Do I just renew it online like I normally would, or do I have to go through a lot of papers/dmv visits?
When I registered it in Guam, they gave me Guam plates but they let me keep my CA plates as souvenirs. I still have them. But I still have my CA drivers license, they didn't care if I drove with my CA license since we were only stationed there.
My Guam registration expired last month, but my car been on boat the last three month so I want to register it asap since Im afraid of being pulled over for an expired tag and GU plates.

My understanding is that you can leave the country and receive a one-year extension. After that, you have to re-register the vehicle.

You're going to have to re-register it in CA, but will to have to make an appointment at a DMV office to get it done. This site should answer all of your questions. If it doesn't, you can call them.

You have to re-register it and take the written portion of the driving test again to renew you license but it's on a computer. At least that's what we had to do after moving back from HI 2 years ago. Just make appt at the DMV to do both.
