Wealthy areas love maintained second homes... the owners use few services yet pay taxes... the biggest cost is schools... people with second homes are not generally the ones sending kids to those schools.

And the prices will not go down. We still have more people wanting to buy than houses available and at today's prices. If the people you talk about sold, the ones who missed out on a bid for a house will still be paying a high price for a new one on the market.

Try my 3 ideas and see what happens. They're the right things to do anyway. At least it gets the market to be healthier than it is today.

Sounds like a lot of "can't do" attitudes. Either they truly don't have any ideas and just shoot down everyone else's, or they subconsciously want home prices to skyrocket because they own a home and love the huge gains and low, Prop13 property taxes. Things that make you go hmmmmm

Just check the statistics. More people want to buy than houses available. Bidding wars on homes, etc. Look at the number complaining here that want prices to drop so they can buy. While it may happen it is better to make more money and save. The price rises mean more people want to buy than houses available. Check a few threads here about people getting out bid by other residents.

It is healthy and that is why prices are high. In an unhealthy market they would drop.

If we really wanted cheaper housing we'd push for building more cheaper housing for the average person. Instead single family homes are being torn down and replaced with (usually) higher end condos. It adds density but doesn't add infrastructure to support it and most people still can't afford it.
Chasing after prop 13 is pointless.
