See you excited to leave then you end up sitting in more traffic then you do spend time at your destination. Obviously San Diego traffic is not as bad as Miami but if you don't plan properly it can feel that way.
Work would more than likely be on the eastern edge of the Country Club neighborhood, almost into Soledad South. Any nearby neighborhood suggestions?

Pacific Beach, it’s a no brainer. You can be to work in <15 minutes, you can also ride a bike if you’re motivated to take on some hills. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, you can rent a room for a $1K and go from there. Good luck.

Rent A ROOM for $1k? Geez. I love San Diego but I could never afford it.

Using $1k for housing monthly would be pretty standard for anyone making 40k and up.

I paid $435 for a studio in mission beach with an ocean view 50 steps to the water in ‘96. You won’t find them on Craigslist, but there’s still studios to be found at the beach for ~$1K. You need to get on a bike and ride up and down the streets and alleys to find them. You also need to be a local and cool, it’s usually owner occupied properties with small studios in the back.

Yep, they want locals and they want to meet you first. That's always how I found mine. No applications and they don't list them online or paper.

The simple answer is, you have to work your ass off to live comfortably in SD.
