Does anyone make the commute from Carlsbad to LA? I'm curious as to how long it takes if I leave around 6:30am?

Where in LA?
I've driven from SD to LA numerous times but not that early. My guess would be around 2 hrs or more because you will be at OC around 7.15am where traffic is bad Northbound.

Figure 2 as a minimum. Allow for 3 possibly depending on traffic and where exactly in LA you are going to. I used to live in N. County and commuted to City of Commerce. Boy was that a nightmare!

I'd say 2-3 hours as well, just to be safe. OC has horrible traffic, as does the 15 fwy.

Thanks to all who responded! I found out I left Carlsbad at 6:30 was in LA (Robertson and Pico Blvd area) by 8:30. 2 hrs on the dot, little to no backups and it seemed pretty smooth. 2 days in a row now, that's the extent of it each week for me (Sales job) so seems very do-able. Thanks again for your help.

Good luck! .. yep.. 2 hours!. my sister lives in Carlsbad.. my mom in So. Bay area.. Torrance.. she does that commute about 1-2 x a week to babysit. It really depends what time of the day you drive, but from what I am told, 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours depending on traffic. If only 1-2 times a week then yes it is doable!

Good luck to you! Where there is a will there is a way!

You will probably die of old age in your car if you try it. LA. traffic is legendary. Even if you make it to the LA. county line by 8am.(probably not). It will take you another hour to make it to Pico. If there is an accident(almost every day). It could take you another 1-2 hrs. to make it to Pico. Find a place in OC. for your own sanity.
