Does anyone know about the new return address requirement? I've run several businesses using a UPS Store address. I work at home while the return address on all my postal mailings was my UPS Store address. I like my privacy and don't want my clients to know that I work at home.

Effective last week, if you mail something from a UPS Store or Fedex Kinkos, did you know the return address on the box must match the address on your driver's licence? Both UPS Store and Fedex Kinkos now check the return address of any package you send against your driver's license. If they don't match, they won't accept your package.

If you've never run a small business, you probably have no idea what I'm talking about. For you entrepreneurs, the new postal laws may affect you.

Maybe you can change the address on your license to your UPS Store box like they do in Texas.

That's easy. Just don't mail anything from a UPS Store or a FedEx Kinkos.

It's a new law. You can't take your package anywhere without the return address matching your drivers license. The local post office is enforcing the law too.

My postman cannot pickup anything from my front door if the return address does not match my home address. He told me it's probably not a new law. It's just a reinterpretation of an old law called 'Known Shipper Program' which was put in place after 9/11.

A lot of political types in San Diego want to be known as business friendly, and they have radically relaxed the rules for home based businesses. Conveying to your Congress critters that this is anti-business, and puts business operators safety and privacy at risk, particularly women operated businesses (whether or not you are woman), could get you some real traction for a re-reinterpretation or a change in the law.

Cite? I just sent a package USPS Priority. They did not check my ID.

This smells... fishy.

This can be a huge problem because the DMV does not re-issue your drivers license due to a change in address.

I've moved several times in the last 5 years and I've registered my new address with the DMV everytime. And everytime I ask for confirmation and when I can expect my updated drivers license, I'm told that they do not re-issue my license due to address changes and give me a paper card where I can hand write my new address and keep it with me. Not very official.

So, does this mean I will never be allowed to send anything through the postal system in the US unless I put my very old mailing address where I do not reside?

Ref: https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/de...ne/coa/welcome

"Welcome to the DMV Change of Address (COA) System.

You can change your residence or mailing address for your California Driver License, Identification Card, vehicle, or vessel. A new driver license, identification card or registration card is not issued when changing your address. Temporary mailing addresses are not allowed."

They will re-issue you a new license when you change your address, but you have to pay for it. I'm going to be moving again soon, and when I change my address, I'm going to be changing everything to my new PMB, and that includes my license.

No citation or link. If your postal dropoff location takes your package without return address verification, you're in great shape. My dropoff locations will not.
