Kettlep, I recently reduced my Cox internet only service to 30 MBPS speed ("Essential Service"), but I'm getting charged $64 per month. How are you getting in the $30's for cox service???

((was $85 for 100mbps speed, and now 30mbps works fine as i expected; was once $200 with landphone, cable but no more - yeah))

using someone else's internet would be the cheapest option and sticking to public areas with wireless internet.

Cable companies are getting smart, for instance AT&T Uverse gives unlimited bandwidth for internet if you also bundle with DirecTV service. However if it's internet only, they cap at 1024 GB/month. Not sure how much streaming 3-4 shows/day on Netflix and Amazon Prime and a movie or two a week would eat into that bandwidth.

This is my experience as well.

Yesterday I wanted to drop my phone from my bundle deal. Phone was $39.99 50mbps internet $67.99 ( bundle price GRANDFATHERED in from 2015).

If I dropped the phone and just kept internet as is it would have been in the $90 range.....because it would no longer have the bundled price. A 30mbps internet would have been in the $80 range without tax.

I wound up keeping the internet at *100mbps with phone for $99 a month that is including tax for 12 months plus I get the new wifi modem rental of $9 included. Service fee is $75 to come out and install it or else I needed to go to Escondido to pick one up....which I won't.

Next year I will go through the same thing when my bill goes up $20.

My Cox bill for internet only is $42/per month, and that includes renting a modem. I don't know why yours is so high.

I don't either. On their website I only see a $99 intro offer. Am I missing something ? Where does it advertise $42 packages on their website ?

Thanks

If you have an account, the cheaper plans won't show up unless you log out. I looked it up on my phone, and this is what there is:

Cox Internet Starter 10
$19.99/month for 12 months.
Regular price $42.99/mo

Cox Internet Essential 30
$29.99/month for 12 months.
Regular price $63.99/month

I had a friend who had the $19.99 plan, and I couldn't tell the difference in the speed.
