Gore has, until very recently, used an interpretation of "good cause" that rejected self-defense, "because it's my right", or "I live in a bad area". CCWs were reserved for friends, retired judges and LEOs, campaign contributors, and a very few wealthy or connected people. Just recently, probably in response to bad polling, "good cause" has been loosened to just about anything outside of just "self-defense" or "it's my right".

Myers has said, AFAIK, that he would be shall-issue. However, I believe he also opposed national reciprocity. And I don't know how much political pressure would have been brought to bear on him to become more restrictive... it's very possible he would have quickly folded. Sheriff is a political position, and cannot buck the powers-that be.

I should have a yes or no to my application from about a week to a month from now. I'm hopeful, but am not holding my breath.

jnojr trouched on ccw. Gore is talking about border crime which is entwined with immigration.

“Domestic violence, repeat DUI offenses... I’m not sure we need those people in our community,” Gore said. “I understand there’s the argument about breaking up families, but putting that domestic abuser back in that house, for example, is that really healthy?”

Dave Myers is endorsed by the San Diego County Gun Owners association. That's all I needed to know.
