Hi there,

We are moving from Cupertino (San Jose area) to San Diego in early Aug and looking for recommendations for good movers. We will ourselves pack all small things in boxes that we have already. Just need help with furniture items - disassembling and packing furniture items and loading, moving (driving) the boxes and furniture items from SJ to SD and once at our new place in SD - unloading and unpacking/assembling/placing furniture. After whatever we sell/donate here, we may be left with fewer furniture items to be moved - perhaps worth a 2-bedroom. Wondering what could be a reasonable price, and does anyone have recommendations to make for good reliable reasonably priced movers?

Thanks a lot, in advance,
Deepa

Hi Deepa,
Did you figure this out? I have a friend that moved from San Diego to Nashville and he indicated the best way for his move was to get a POD and they transported his items. How it works you get a POD delivered to your place in San Jose, you pack it up then they bring it to a POD storage center in San Diego. From there you would have to get local movers to move items to your new place in San Diego. By the way, have you already found a place to rent here in San Diego?

When I moved from the Bay Area, I used https://www.unpakt.com/ and it networked me to several movers. I just chose the cheapest option. I can see the downside of using this service because it's mostly fixed pricing structure and you have to be pretty exact. I believe most movers will offer long distance moving, just need to see their reviews and use your best judgement.

We recently moved across country and using a combination of UPack (we used the entire trailer) and sourcing movers on both ends to load / unload worked well for us. The guys we used here to unload were awesome: Packing Bees Movers. UPack was great as well

My nephew came to stay with us for several months in 2021. From Oklahoma City to San Diego he paid $68 dlls for a Uhaul trailer that he hauled with his truck and had it for three days. When it came time for him to move back, he was shocked to find that the same Uhaul in reverse was $1,400 for three days. As a result, his stuff is still in my garage...LOL.
