My bill during the summer with regular A/C usage has usually been $160-180, as it was for July 2018 as well as July 2017. Use last month was about 550 kWh which is about in line with the same time in 2017. My upcoming bill is forecasted to be about $300, at around 780 kWh. This is a big jump and certainly more than the same time last year.

It seems as though the past few weeks has been extremely hot which may account for the increased usage. Am I imagining things, or has it in fact been way hotter than normal over the past 30 days?

Our kWh numbers are similar. My next forecasted bill is expected to be over $300.

My increased kwh usage is due to our portable AC that we run at night. Our nighttime temps are much higher than June and our humidity (as measured by dewpoint) is in the high 60's at night.

Our daytime temps are typical San Diego coastal summer numbers but the dewpoint remains high. I'm told the dewpoint is high because of the high ocean temps.

If you're looking for extremes, look at Phoenix. Their annual monsoon season in 2018 could be one for the record books. Maybe thats why I'm seeing more AZ plates at the beach than normal.

It has everything to do with the fact that the electric RATES are up 90% or so since 2013-15. We've had hot summers since then.

I'm looking purely at the kWh, this last 30 days my kWh usage was almost 50% more than the month before and the same time in 2016/2017

So what electrical appliances are you using more? My increase is due to a portable AC that I use every summer. My kwh chart looks just like yours.

This is all due to AC, 5-7 hours/day

It’s getting absolutely ridiculous when your monthly electric bill is edging ever closer to a monthly new car payment. I’m in the coastal zone and although we have had short episodes of really hot weather in the past the humidity levels and duration is something new. And the record high ocean temps. Is California on the cutting edge of advancing global warming.

I'm curious if it's just been warmer at night lately (not cooling off) hence the higher AC bills?

Funny thing, I got a new "cool" roof installed a few months ago with a ridge vent and ohagins. Supposed to have a cooler attic, hence lower A/C and energy bills. Seems to still be warm in my house from 5-11pm which is when I use most of the AC. My bills haven't dropped at all!

As I said, around 2013 (see the previous thread) it's been much more humid summers so fans/ac are the most expensive appliances you can run @ these inflated rates. We have the highest rates in the US. Evidently our electricity is mo betta than the rest.
