With a search warrant of the student’s home, police found several guns from ghost guns to assault weapons. “To hand guns, to shot guns, to grenade launchers and grenades,” described Chief David Nisleit, with San Diego Police.

That school is across a street from me. Every day for the last 15 years morning starts at 4AM with somebody over there using power drill or stone grinder. Then, rain or shine or Santa Ana wind, non stop leaf blowing runs until 8AM. At around noon the marching band begins practicing. The practice rarely ends before 11PM. I am absolutely positively sure that pupils learn absolutely nothing at that establishment.

I'd be highly surprised if those were live grenades. It is legal to own an RPG. It's legal to make your own firearm without a serial number in most States and was here in CA too until recently. Then the media gave it the term "ghost gun". Which means absolutely nothing but to get people glued to their tv.

There is no such thing as an "assault weapon".

Let's put it this way. There is an "assault weapon" ban in CA right now but you can still buy one easily. The term is so loosely thrown around it can include almost any type of weapon. More media hype. They are trying to include modern semi auto sporting rifles and that's just dumb.

An actual not made up assault rifle can still be owned legally but it is very expensive. These are full auto.

A lot of these stupid CA laws are being reversed right now as unconstitutional.

I read on another site that the RPG was a movie prop, and the "explosives" as police described them, were emergency flares.

As mentioned, it was perfectly legal to make home-made firearms until recently. I have no idea if they are still legal to possess. And of course the media is reporting that this guy had the very scary "assault weapons".

No idea if this guy and his son were true threats or just over-zealous pepper-types.

Home made are legal. For the time being you have to apply for Govt Daddy serial number. Most of these laws are falling. The stupid ammo back ground check law is on hold as is the regular capacity magazine ban. Hopefully the dumb 10 day wait gets shelved too. I'd hate to be a woman in fear of her life by DV and use a restraining order and have to wait 10 days to protect herself.
