Asking for a friend - How are the neighborhoods around Douglas Drive near the San Luis Rey Mission in Oceanside? A friend is looking at a rental over there and wondering how safe it is and I'm not sure. Thanks!

Not a good area in general as far as the apartment rentals go. Go on apartmentratings dot com and yelp and read some of the reviews.

Be careful of reading too much into complaints at apartmentratings dot com, yelp, or any other apartment rating service. San Diego county has some great well-managed apartment complexes. However, their ratings are often low.

People seldom write good things about their apt if they like it. On the other hand, people who hate their apt will tell everyone and write about it everywhere.

If you're looking to move into an apt complex just walk the grounds looking for residents. Ask current residents how they like the place. Do this self-tour during daylight hours. Do drive-by's at nite. At nite, you're looking for loud parties and parking problems.

Thank you - she’s actually looking at a house rental in one of the neighborhood. Neighborhood scout has a whole large area over there labeled as higher crime but the crime tab has it in the lowest and we’re not sure which to believe. I know the area off Vandergrift is less safe but I don’t know about closer to the mission.
