Yes, as I posted previously, if you don't mind renting or living in a condo or maybe a townhome, then it's not that hard to live in San Diego. However if you want to live in a detached single family home you better be wealthy.

Default welcome to SD

you'll do fine at that salary; just don't buy a Lexus or buy a 900K home. you are better off renting with minimum debts. that extra money you and your family can enjoy the lifestyle out here.

it's always a great way to live in SD. just contact the local police dept and ask for crime stats in the area you plan to move into...good luck future neighbor

Say what?

Rhetorical...

I think $85k in SD would be scraping by.

I just entered 85k income and a few other assumptions (including only $12,000 down) into this calculator:

Affordable Home Calculator from CNNMoney

It came back with a conservative estimate of about $303,000 and an aggresive one of $365,000 for what that person could afford.

I checked Dataquick's site and it showed the median home price in SD county in July at $318,750. Looks like someone can afford quite a few areas with an $85,000 income.

Doesn't seem like "scraping by" to me.

The earlier posts were from 2006, so it was quite a different picture back then as compared to today.

You can get by on quite a bit less than $85k if you spend wisely. It all depends on what you want.

It's crazy to read posts from back in 2006- people advocating "creative financing", suggesting that you just sell or refinance once your ARM adjusts. Simple as that, right? Wow. How the market has changed since then!

A MUST SEE! STUNNING 4 BEDROOM 2 BATH 2006 MANUFACTURED HOME!! (http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/reb/1356584009.html - broken link)

http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/reb/1358928921.html (broken link)

what is wrong with this houses?
i heart from somebody who lives in san diego there are many, many foreclosures..so if you really want a cheaper house, you can find it...

here around napa for example...in our community houses used to be around one million or more...they are rented now for around 2,2500 and they are sold for around 750000,4 brdm...and the same happened around napa different locations...prices fall incredible and they continue to fall, you can find houses in all prices hier, the seller are desperate to sell..many ,many foreclosures...

Uh, it's not a house. It's a trailer park.

A manufactured home is just like having a house. I lived in a mobile home park when I was in Chico, and someone moved one in. You couldn't tell the difference, unless you knew that it was a manufactured home. They're actually different than regular mobile homes, and much, much more expensive.
