We have lived in our home for 30 years which is less than a mile from the coast and we have no AC. Normally there are a couple weeks a year that we wish we had it, but we can get by with the ceiling fans we have and use portable fans when it is too hot.

We do have ducts, so I might consider that whole house retrofit. I'd like to put solar on it too, but condo association says I'd have to pay to have them removed if there needs to be a roof repair, and I guess that's pretty costly. I heard SDG&E is pretty high and ascending in price next year.
