DON'T MOVE TO POWAY! Unless you want your children to attend narrow minded and redneck schools. My daughter went through hell there and we pulled her out and moved out of Poway...unless you want your children to grow up with racism, homophobia, and intollerance. After London you will think you landed in a facist state. San Diego is very conservative north of Claremont and East of La Mesa. Try somewhere else, centrally located.

I live in Ramona, right next to Poway. It has a real redneck reputation, too, but a lot of it is undeserved. I'll admit there's a lot of undue prejudice against Mexican and Mexican-American farm laborers here, but there isn't the same type of prejudice against blacks, although they comprise only 0.8% of the population. The schools are strong in the basics, if somewhat clique-oriented, but Poway is a lot bigger than Ramona and more diverse. My son is a senior at Ramona H.S. and his class president (and homecoming king) is black. It must be all the gun racks on our pickups that fool people. If any of your kids like horses or riding, there are some beautiful equestrian facilities and trails in Poway. As for driver's ed, I'm not sure any of the public schools offer it anymore. Some of the community colleges offer low-cost driver's ed classes at satellite locations in area high schools but funding cuts have wiped out the school provided programs.

Ramona...Poway...I have noticed they are both the same. As a female of Mexican descent, I have experienced many prejudices...I moved to Ramona from San Diego city 3 years ago and let me tell you.. I am ready to leave this "closed minded" town! Its amazing how ignorance lives within even the most "educated" and "religious" people.
This place is definitely not for cultural diversity; however, someone has to begin to change it and bring some light into their dark tunneled minds.
No doubt that those who are racist have so much fear!!!

I’m not aware of any gang related activities in Poway/RB. Most kids here are too busy with a myriad of activities to get into any serious trouble. Typical upper middle class suburban environment.

Missed that, my apologies. The absurdity of the comments needed to be reconfirmed at the decade mark anyway as I worry people will stumble upon this nonesense via google.
