Anyone know of websites where you can name and shame renters?

Renters left without paying last months rent and trashed the house

I don't know of any, but I'd sure like to find one for landlords.

What would be the point of "naming and shaming" them? Other than maybe making you feel a little better.

You kept their deposit and last months rent, right? You can also take them to small claims court, if it's worth the hassle. If they don't pay, you can turn the judgment over to collections, and it'll hit their credit and show up in backgrounds. Going forward, you can always do background checks on prospective tenants... when I rented out rooms, I included a link to the form in my posts. Kept a lot of riff-raff from wasting even a second of my time, and I always had good people who paid on time.

You might also consider using a property management company.

A good property manager would ask for a reference from their most recent landlord. You may just get your chance to pay them back.

You can’t do that in California. I wasn’t even allowed to tell neighbors we were evicting our tenants.

Tenants, even the scuzzy ones, have a lot of rights in California. My second-happiest day was when we sold our rental.

I had the same exact situation once. People suggested small claims court but I decided it wasn't worth the hassle. Just curious, do you have a property manager? With the first renter I made the mistake of renting to a "friend" that I thought I could trust.

I've seen name & shame posts on Craigslist.

Maybe you should do a better job of screening. Or hire someone who knows what they're doing to help in the process.

Seems to me a revenue stream for some property management companies is the security deposit.

ditto If I ever own another rental property, it will be an Airbnb property. Airbnb seems to be in bed with the city of San Diego.
