I paid for my business tax fee this year for a sole-proprietor business, working doing medical transports. I am no longer doing the business (was a 1099 employee). Do I just not pay the business tax when the current one expires, or do I need to call/mail them to let them know I'm no longer "in business"?

City of San Diego or ...?
I simply didn't pay my renewal when I dissolved a business several years back. That was SD though. It may be different elsewhere. From what I recall, they didn't even follow it up with a reminder/late fee notice. I still have a bank account under the business name too.

When the renewal billing statement arrives next year there is an option at the back of the form to indicate you are cancelling for reasons such as closing your business. If you want to do it earlier you might be able to contact the city treasurer's office directly and ask about how to cancel for next year.
