I just looked at the high-end properties in Fort Lauderdale. Are you looking at properties in the 8-figure range? If so, I don't think we have many beach properties like Fort Lauderdale has in the 8-figure price range. You'll need to look in Malibu CA.

Some of SD higher cost of living is offset by the extremely high utility costs one must pay for 8 months a year in South Florida to tolerate the humidity.

San Diego electricity rates are much higher (as much as 2-3 x) but use less - probably somewhat of a wash. Bigger expense is housing and Ft Lauderdale is much less.
