I love gardening and want to retire or a farm, currently live in northern Virginia
Love it except it feels like summers are too shot and cannot grow my favorite tropicals
Like Guava mango and Sapota and many more
We are in our 40’s and wNt to invest in a piece of land where I can grow some chickens for eggs and a cow for milk and 1 or 2 acres of land, to grow everything and be self sufficient
Please suggest a good place affordable which is good and safe 10 years from now.
Not interested in living in woods just be on a homestead

What’s you budget?
Land is not cheap anywhere here in Southern California, a Budget would at lease help us steer you in the right direction.

Under 300k for land and under 500k if it has a home
I don’t want to be near major highways or anything I want to be in upcoming suburbs with no restrictions on having cow and chicken

You need at least 4 acres and the proper zoning to have a cow in San Diego county. If you don’t mind a bit of a project, you can find all this for $500K in the county within an hour of the city. I wouldn’t call any of these places suburbs though? They’ll be very rural. Safe though. Valley Center, Fallbrook, and unincorporated El Cajon will be your best bets. Keep in mind you’ll be paying for water a good portion of the year.

Personally I’d go to the Big Island of Hawaii if I wanted to be self sufficient. Land is way cheaper, and water falls from the sky for free year round.

Here’s two within an hour of downtown, with no traffic

You won't find an acre in S Cal based on those parameters. It will either be too hot, too expensive or over restricted for a ranch style place on an acre near the beach.

And the OP will probably never post again, since nothing here meets their specifications.
