Is there a way to get from the area around Sycamore to the area around El Camino Real without the freeway? Wanting to drive classic truck from storage to home slowly as we break in differential.

Yes. Lake Blvd if N Carlsbad, Faraday or Palomar S Carlsbad. Google Maps is your friend.

They're adjacent cities. You don't need the freeway.

It would have taken less time to look on google maps than to make this thread.

I realize they are adjacent cities. I was looking for insight from those who are familiar with that route that may not show on Google maps. Thanks for interjecting your opinion with absolutely no additional information relating to my question.

You're welcome. Keep in mind, a lot of the roads are 45 or 55mph, although you could always put on your flashers and stay right as much as possible. Also, there is elevation heading E to W, often downhill into El Camino and then uphill sharply from El Camino toward the coast. You're going to have that elevation regardless, going from Vista toward the coast, but I'd say it's actually gentler on I-78 and Lake Blvd versus the more southern ones.

Okay thank you. That's a good point.

"Breaking in" a differential? Are you concerned with clutches in a limited slip diff?

Is your destination North or South C'bad?

Lake Dr. puts you very North.

For South, I'd take Sycamore to Palomar Airport Rd and vary your speeds.

If you really want to go slow, you can take Sycamore/Robellini to Mission westbound, and cruise through Vista/Oceanside, then ECR to C'bad.

Special truck, you say?

There's a "Car's & Coffee" every Sat morning (7am-9am) at Poinsettia Ralphs. Across the street from Charles Bronson's trailer park. (Lakeshore Gardens.)

Yes, hubby is breaking in the differential. He's a retired mechanic and this is his frame-off restore. We'll try that Robellini/Mission route too. We went for a drive to check Farady - it's kind of steep in a couple of places. We are in North Carlsbad. From Vista to Carlsbad, off the freeway?-img_2508.jpg

We'll have to check out Cars and Coffee - it sounds like fun!

Diff's don't usually require a "break-in" period, as they are very robust. There are no hills around here that would/could be of concern. Especially if the truck is empty and/or not pulling a trailer.

However, if your husband has a concern with the pumpkin, then his best course of action would be to install a diff oil cooler. Since this is a new 3rd member, he might want to run/lap it in, then change lubricant to a full synthetic for extended service intervals. Unless the truck gets *submerged*, the oil in the diff should be good for 250,000 miles.

*Can happen if launching a boat trailer down a ramp.

Nice looking truck, btw! 350?
