Catalina used to have black Russian boar hunts. I see those are not listed anymore.

However, they DO have antelope there (along with deer/bison/others.) This could present a challenge...

EDIT~ Back to the thread topic~ Nope, no cheap places on the island.

You know though. I just had a thought....how about rounding up all the strung out/addicted homeless in the State, and drop them off at San Clemente Island? I suppose the NAVY would pitch a bad thing about it, but it was just a thought. (No way would they go for it...)

If you do decide to visit Catalina soon, be sure to try the local cocktail: buffalo milk. I was last there in September 2015 and stayed at the Banning House Inn overlooking Two Harbors for about four days.

I don't think I did. That would have been cool though.

I've moored at the Del Rey Yacht Club. Over night, we heard goats on the hillsides, while we were onboard the boat. (48' Egg Harbor.)

I’ve gotten some deals on hotels up in the hills above Avalon. Too far to walk into town so you have to wait around for a shuttle. Last time we were there it was just after Xmas and it was really cold.

I hiked the Trans-Catalina Trail with my daughter late 2019 and camped in a few spots. Very affordable that way... and beautiful.

They don't allow dispersed camping. You have to stay in a designated spot and have reservations. For about $20 they will deliver water to you and firewood. Totally worth it. Also, if you join the conservancy you get a discount on camping spots.

Don't get too close to the bison.
